There is a small beach to the east of Playa Blanca harbour. However, because it is only small, two new beaches have been prepared. To the east is the larger Playa Dorada which has some shops and restaurants, a children's playground and offers a variety of water sports. To the west is the delightful little Playa Flamingo, sheltered by two moles and backed by subtropical gardens. This is a perfect family beach with very safe bathing and a children's playground. The three areas of Playa Blanca are linked by a promenade to the east of the harbour which is backed by shops and restaurants - many of which have terraces overlooking the sea.
There are also a series of six beaches at Papagayo with pale gold sand and these are considered to be some of the best in the Canary Islands. These are within walking distance, if you enjoy a good hike, but are far more easily reached by car or boat! They are popular with naturists, snorkellers and surfers. A launch, Cesar II, runs at regular intervals between Playa Blanca and Papagayo. This makes a pleasant excursion, even if you do not wish to land at Papagayo.
